Is it possible to upload on week zero with no scores entered?

I would like our league bowlers to the the leaguesecretary.com email so that they know which lane they're on, but BLS is blocking the upload saying that no scores were entered. Midway Sportsmen league ID 4003.

Mike,
I have a crazy idea. Give one bowler a score, then maybe you can upload week 1. After actually bowling week 1 upload again. Maybe??
PS Include the brief recap in the team standing section to show first week lanes.

I tried what Jim suggested. I got it to accept an upload. Now, I quickly disconnected my internet after it started so it wouldn't upload, as I don't have my teams fully rostered and assigned yet, so I didn't want to actually upload...yet.

But I too like to upload standings prior to bowling week one, as I've done for multiple seasons. What I've done is remove the team standings from the sheets and display print rosters only, again so the bowlers can see where they are for the first night. If I left the team standings in, it would show them all forfeiting, with a warning to that effect.

I haven't written to the Seattle folks (developers), but I'm guessing that they may have initiated a "safety valve" to prevent an upload from being done prematurely. Advance to, say, week 3, then do the upload and it displays that message. So this may be to safeguard against that.

Still, that means that you can't upload until there's at least one recorded game. So, per Jim's suggestion, it might be good to insert some random substitute, enter one game on that line, and when you do your pre-first night upload, make sure it also doesn't display substitutes (and use the "T" on the scores entry screen so the team's roster isn't affected). You should then be able to do your upload...after that, return to scores entry and remove that score, then the sub as well, reset your standings, and you should be set.

Now that one of my leagues is about to begin, I entered scores for a vacancy to "force" BLS-2021 to upload to LeagueSecretary.com. I did that upload and went home, thinking all was well.

What I didn't factor in was that with even one game entered, BLS now uploads standings with lane assignments for Week 2. So, that requires a little work.

My workaround is to change the dates of Weeks 2, 3, and 4, where Week 2 has the same date as Week 1, and progresses for the following two weeks (to include the first three weeks of lane assignments). Then, I modify (unlock) the lane assignments so that what is labeled Week 4 actually contains what should be Week 3, then make Week 3 match Week, 2, finally Week 2 changed to match Week 1 (which is always 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, etc.). I then view standings to check things, upload the standings, then return to lane assignments to fix dates and to re-load the schedule so everything is back to normal before bowling. It takes a little time, but it's doable.

Frank,
The brief recap option for the team standing will show the first week lanes. I would use one of the message boxes to direct the bowlers to the brief recap, but nothing perfect. Also the season schedule at League Secretary will have all the weekly lane assignments.
The ability to post a preseason lane assignment is what we need which is where this thread started.

Most workarounds have a problem of some sort!

This would be a great feature to do. Week 1 is hectic and bowlers look for the secretary like a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. You can't remember every bowler and what team they are on to tell them where to go. It would be nice if for future years, this can be done for the returning bowlers. Then you only have to worry about new bowlers or the few that don't check their email. lol

You could "print" the schedule as a pdf and email it to the team captains and let them tell everyone on their team where they are.  Our league has a website so I upload it there and include the link in my preseason email to all captains.  With it out "in the cloud" when people ask when lane they're on I respond with "all that information is readily available on the internet."  I'm kind of a smart ass. :)

Let the captains tell them LOL you should meet my league captains...

Going back to Jim’s response to my workaround—I put the team lineups for that pre-week 1 upload because in one league, there’s a draft and this tells them what team they’re on; other league, is match point so the bowlers look to see their lineup order (we require low to high) and opponents’ lineups.

Captains informing their team? That’s a good one... <snicker>

Frank,
Your workaround has better results than mine. Any LS lane assignment emails from my league would show week 2. Next time, I might delete the team standings and lane assignments from the web standing sheet and put the lanes for week 1 in a message. To tweak the LS emails I could have a pretend fun bowl the week before the real week 1, then it would say week 2 but the date would be correct. Or maybe we'll get a new option from CDE.

For Frank, a draft league. That actually sounds cool. I would always be the number one draft pick. Well not as a bowler LOL

I did my big league tonight and all I did was insert a position round into Week 1, that put all subsequent weeks back one week each. I then fudged the dates on weeks 2-4, entered one game score, and set up a standing sheet that shows team rosters sorted by lane number, and lane assignments for three weeks. The standings I uploaded (you can look at league IDs 6368 and 47342) both display this.

The only oddity is that the lane assignments shows weeks 2-4 but I have the dates set as if weeks 1-3, and everything is fine.

Now, before I print recaps or anything else, I can use the built-in utilities to fix the dates and reload the schedules.

Please bring this function back.  Leagues rely on seeing the standings/lane assignments for week 1.  Fudging a score to get it to upload sets the lane assignments to week 2.  Bowlers want to be able to view the league prior to week 1.

This was never a problem in past versions.

Agreed.  (And maybe it is "fixed" in 2022 but I haven't tried it yet)
Want the option to upload to LS prior to week 1 score entry, please.
