Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to Common Questions

Every year around this time, our support team hears the same great questions. Here are the answers, so you can breeze through setup.

Do I need to re-enter my league for the new season?
If you used BLS-2023 through BLS-2026, no need — your league carries forward. If your last league was older than that, we suggest entering it fresh. To roll forward an existing league, open last year's season, go to the last week averages counted, then choose Tasks > Mid/End Season > Restart League for New Season.

What if my league didn't copy from the past BLS?
Go to Maintenance > Copy > Copy League Wizard and follow the prompts.

Should I reload the USBC schedule?
If your center uses the official USBC schedule, yes — head to the lane assignment screen and reload it to make sure everything lines up. If you use a custom schedule, the CDE Alternate Schedule, or random lane assignments, you can skip this step.

Do last season's rules carry over automatically?
Yes, but double-check the start date and walk through your league rules screen to confirm everything still fits. If your league changed its bylaws, update the rules to match.

What if a holiday falls on our schedule this year?
You have two choices: delete that date from lane assignments (which shifts the rest of the schedule up), or mark that week as a holiday week instead.

I can't find where to edit standing sheet messages — were they removed?
They're still there! Go to Setup > Standings > Standing Sheet Setup, then choose Messages from the top-right menu.

What about editing the web version of the standing sheet?
Also still available. Same path — Setup > Standings > Standing Sheet Setup — but choose Web Standings from the top-right menu instead.

The button bar moved to the bottom of my screen. Can I move it back?
Yes. Just make sure you're running version 39.03.01 or newer, then adjust it in Program Preferences.

Can I change the color theme if the current one is hard on my eyes?
Definitely — Program Preferences has several light and dark theme options to choose from.

I like the redesigned address book, but can I scroll instead of clicking between sections?
Yes! Program Preferences lets you choose scrollable or separate sections, and keyboard shortcuts let you jump between sections quickly while editing.

Why do I see gaps on my recap sheets?
This usually happens with a fixed roster setup — if you made a roster change for a team, be sure to click Save Fixed Roster once you've confirmed it looks right.

I uploaded to LeagueSecretary.com every week last season and my bowlers loved it. Anything different this year?
Nope — your league ID stays the same season to season, so you're all set.

I just took over the league, and I'm getting an error when I try to upload to LeagueSecretary.com. What's wrong?
This isn't a BLS issue. Make sure your LeagueSecretary.com account is linked to that league, and that your BLS login matches the one you use on the LeagueSecretary.com website.

Can I prep a league in BLS-2027 Standard or Professional and send it to a center running the AutoScoring edition?
Yes, as long as the center is also on BLS-2027. If they're still on BLS-2026 or older, the file won't be backward compatible.

A prior league secretary is handing the software off to me. What's the process?
Visit CDESoftware.com and use the License Transfers page — it walks both of you through the handoff.

My lane assignments suddenly show lane zero. What happened?
Starting in version 39.03.01, BLS runs a quick check when you open a league and flags anything that needs a repair. You can also trigger this manually anytime through Utilities > Repair > Validate Lane Assignments.

My Master Bowler Database still shows MBD-2026 after I installed BLS-2027. Why?
MBD installs separately from BLS. After installing MBD-2027, be sure to enable it in BLS program preferences and activate its license too.

Can I move my leagues to a new computer?
Yes — install BLS-2027 on the new machine, then restore your league backups from the old one.

Should I back up to a flash drive every week?
We always recommend it. Just remember to unplug the flash drive when you're not actively backing up.

Can I delete leagues I no longer need?
Yes. Back the league up first, then from the main screen with no league open, go to Maintenance > Delete > League. For safety, you can only delete one league at a time.
