Socket Error or Elevate DB Error #1100 – What It Means and How to Fix It

If you get a message like “Socket Error” or “Elevate DB Error #1100,” it means your computer is having trouble talking to the MBD Server. Here are a few things that might be causing the problem and how to fix them:

1. Firewall Could Be Blocking It

Think of a firewall like parental controls on a TV. You might want to watch the History Channel on channel 123, but if the parental lock is on, you can’t see it. On a computer, those “channels” are called ports, and if a port is blocked, your programs can’t talk to each other.

Here’s the important part:

  • The MBD Server uses port 16210 to talk to BLS, BTM, and the MBD Manager.

  • If your firewall blocks that port, it’s like the parental control blocking a channel.

  • Some firewalls also block specific programs, not just ports.

What to do:

  • Check your firewall settings and make sure port 16210 is allowed.

  • Also make sure the MBD Server, BLS, and BTM programs are allowed to access the network.

  • Since firewalls vary by brand and version, check your firewall's help guide or ask someone familiar with your system for help.

2. MBD Server Might Not Be Running

Sometimes the server just didn’t start up like it should. Here's how to check:

  1. Press the Windows key + R on your keyboard.

  2. Type services.msc and hit Enter.

  3. Find CDE Software MBD Server in the list.

  4. Check if the Status says Running.

  5. If it’s not running, right-click it and choose Start.

You may also want to restart your computer to see if it starts up properly on its own next time.

3. Incorrect Settings

Make sure BLS, BTM, or the MBD Manager knows where to find the MBD Server.

  • If the MBD Server is on the same computer, the IP address should be 127.0.0.1 and the setting should say Yes to using the local machine.

  • If the server is on a different computer, set the option to No and type in that computer’s correct IP address.

Double-check those settings in your MBD connection preferences to make sure they’re correct.

Once you go through these steps, the connection should work and the error should go away.
