How to Change a BYE Team to an Active Team in BLS-2025

If you need to change a BYE Team into an active team with bowlers, follow these steps to ensure that everything is configured correctly, considering the stage of the season and whether or not the new team will make up missed games.

Steps to Change a BYE Team to an Active Team

  1. Assess the Season Timing:
    • Determine how far you are into the season.
    • Decide whether the new team will bowl make-up games for the weeks already missed or start from the current week.

If the New Team Will Bowl Make-Up Games:

  1. Go Back to Week One:
    • Return to week one in BLS-2025.
    • You will be prompted about why you are returning. Choose the first option: "I need to make some corrections". This is a safety measure in BLS.
  2. Modify BYE Team Rules:
    • Open Setup > League > Rules and click on the BYE Teams tab.
    • Change the setting to "BYE teams will neither receive wins or losses". This ensures a win-loss record of 0-0 until the new team starts bowling.
  3. Rename the BYE Team:
    • Go to the Weekly tab and click on Adjust Team Rosters.
    • Select the BYE Team and change the Team Name in the white box labeled Team Name.
    • Delete "BYE" and type in the new team name.
  4. Add Bowlers to the New Team:
    • Add bowlers to the newly named team. If needed, you can refer to the manual (page 122) for more details on adding bowlers.
  5. Enter Make-Up Scores:
    • When entering make-up scores, BLS will recalculate the standings and points for the league from the first week onward.
    • Notify the League: Let league members know that standings may change due to recalculations so they are not confused by the revised standings and scores.

If the New Team Will NOT Bowl Make-Up Games:

  1. Adjust League Rules for Standings:
    • Go to Setup > League > Rules and click on the Team Points tab.
    • Set the option for "Standings are determined by percentage of wins to losses rather than absolute points" to "Yes".
    • This setting will compute standings based on percentages of wins/losses, rather than the total number of points won/lost.
  2. Verify with League Officers:
    • Before making this rule change, verify with your league officers that it is acceptable to calculate standings based on percentages.

Important Note:

  • Making these changes will affect standings and potentially alter the positions of teams and individual scores from earlier weeks. It’s crucial to inform the league members about these changes to avoid confusion.
By following these steps, you can smoothly transition a BYE team into an active team with bowlers while considering how to handle the past weeks of missed games.
