Types of Scores and How to Enter Them in BLS-2025

When entering scores for players, different codes are used to indicate special types of scores. Here’s a guide on what each code means and how to use them:

Regular Score Entry

  • No Prefix Code: Simply enter the score if the player was present and bowled normally. No letter is needed.

Score Codes and Their Features

CodeFeature Description
AAbsentee/Blind Score: Used when a player is absent. The absentee score is based on the bowler's average, typically average minus 10 pins as defined in the league rules.
VVacancy Score: Represents a fixed vacancy score set in the league rules. Handicap is calculated based on this vacancy score.
DDummy Score: Also represents a fixed vacancy score but no handicap is added to the score or team.
YYouth Vacancy Score: Similar to a vacancy score but allows a custom value to be entered. Handicap is based on the score entered.
PPacer Score: Recorded for bowler history but does not count towards the team's score or the bowler's average, and does not qualify for awards.
XeXtra Score: Counts towards the bowler's history and average but not towards team scores. It qualifies for awards and individual match points if the bowler is in a roster position. To avoid counting in match play, place the bowler after the last roster member. This is useful for "Best 4 of 5" leagues.
IInjury Score: Used if a bowler cannot complete a game. After entering the 'I' code, enter the injured score. It counts towards the team total but not the bowler's average. It can also be used when a valid score is needed that does not apply to the bowler’s record.
KBaker Score: Used for Baker games. This score will not count towards the bowler's record or high score statistics. It should be used when a team bowls in a Baker-style format where the score represents the combined effort of all players.

Entering Scores for Baker Games

  • Configure the Number of Games: Set up the number of games to include Baker games in League Rules.
  • Legal Lineup Rule: Set up the rule such that at least 1 bowler must bowl to ensure the game isn’t forfeited. If a team lacks the required number of bowlers, the game can be overridden to reflect a forfeit.
  • Handicap for HDCP Leagues: Handicap is based on the bowler used for entering the score. Use the Override option to set the correct handicap for Baker games.
  • Bowler Records: Scores entered with the 'K' code will not apply to individual bowler records or averages.

Handling Injury and Absentee Scores

  • Injury Scores:
    • If a bowler is injured mid-game, use 'I' to enter the injured score. It will count towards the team total but not the bowler's average.
    • Injury scores can also be used when an absentee needs a score that doesn’t follow regular rules.
    • Injury scores can be configured in the rules to count towards a legal lineup. Refer to the Legal Lineup & Forfeits settings for more details.
By using these codes appropriately, you can ensure all scores are entered correctly based on league rules and the specific circumstances of each bowler. This maintains accuracy in team totals, handicaps, and individual records.
