How to Restart Your League for the Next Season

Restarting your league for a new season isn't just about going back to Week 1—BLS has a special tool to help you prepare properly. Here’s how to do it:

Steps to Restart Your League:
  1. Open the League from Last Season:
    • Go to the last week where scores counted toward averages (if your last night was a Fun Night, go to the week before that).
  2. Go to Tasks > Restart League > Restart League for Next Season.
  3. Select Restart Options:
    • You'll see several options. The most common ones are already selected, but here's what each option does:
      • Erase Old Book Averages: Removes all book averages for bowlers.
      • If > 21 Games, Copy Current Avg. to Book Avg.: Sets the book averages for bowlers with more than 21 games.
      • Clear Sanction Payments & Assoc Awards: Removes awards and sanction payments.
      • Remove People Designated "Quit the League": Deletes bowlers who quit.
      • Take All Bowlers Off of the Teams: Clears team rosters, but bowlers' personal information is saved for the new league.
      • Re-Order Teams from 1st Place to Last Place: Renumbers teams based on their standings.
      • Clear League Planner: Removes the league planner data.
      • Copy Current Average to Entering Average: Sets an entering average for the new season if needed.
  4. Enter a New League Description:
    • The description must be unique. Add the bowling season year (e.g., "2425") at the end to indicate it's for the new season.
  5. Enter a New League Title:
    • This is the name that appears on reports, such as Standing Sheets. You could add "2024-25" at the end to show it's for the new season.
  6. Acknowledge Dialog Screens:
    • Click "OK" on the dialog boxes that pop up next.
  7. Assign a New Filename:
    • You don’t have to change the filename—just click "Yes" to keep it as is.
  8. Select a New Starting Date:
    • The starting date from last season will be listed initially. Use the double arrow to advance to the new start date, then select it.
  9. Click the Double Checkmark in the lower right corner to proceed.
  10. Verify the New Season Schedule:
    • Review the schedule to remove any dates you won’t be bowling, and confirm position rounds, Roll Off dates, etc.
  11. Your League for the New Season is Now Open:
    • Make any additional changes needed for the new season.
  12. Open the New Season's League File:
    • Click on File Tab > Open Any League / Copy Old League.
    • Click on the new year's league that you just created, and select Open.
  13. Your League for Next Year is Ready to Use.
Note: When you restart the league, BLS will automatically copy the old league to a new file so that the original remains intact for reference. For example, if your league file is called "MIX2324," the new one could be "MIX2425."
This helps keep last season’s records safe while you begin the new season fresh!
