Backing up your league data is very important to protect your work in case something goes wrong with your computer. If you have a backup, you can easily recover your data. It's also a great way to move your league information to a new computer.
A complete backup includes four main sets of data: Leagues, System Files, Local Awards, and Common Addresses. Here’s how to back them up:
1. League Backup (Your Core League Info):
- If the league is closed:
- Go to Maintenance > Backup > League.
- Select the league and click Backup.
- Choose the USB Flash Drive as the location to save the backup.
- If the league is open:
- Go to Weekly > Backup > Backup to Drive/Network.
- Choose the USB Flash Drive as the save location.
Important: Never save your backup on the same hard drive as the original data, as it won't help if the hard drive fails.
2. System Files Backup (Settings and Customizations):
- This backs up your program settings, templates, and other adjustments.
- Do this after setting up the league and whenever you make changes.
- To back up:
- With the league closed, go to Maintenance > Backup > System Files.
- Save the backup on the USB Flash Drive.
3. Local Awards Backup (Prize Settings):
- Back up any changes you make to the local or bowling center prizes.
- To back up:
- With the league closed, go to Maintenance > Backup > Local Awards.
- Save the backup on the USB Flash Drive.
4. Common Addresses Backup (Bowling Center, Bank, Associations):
- Back up after adding or changing contact information for centers, banks, etc.
- To back up:
- With the league closed, go to Maintenance > Backup > Common Addresses.
- Save the backup on the USB Flash Drive.
Regular Backup Suggestions:
- Back up your league every week to a USB Flash Drive.
- Also, make a backup at milestones like the end of a split or the end of the season. Use a separate USB Flash Drive for these.
Uploading to LeagueSecretary.com:
- If you upload your standings to LeagueSecretary.com, the site will also save a backup of your league. They keep the 2 most recent backups, which provides an extra layer of protection.
Automatic Backups:
- You can set up automatic backups:
- Go to File > Preferences > Program Setup > Program Operation Defaults tab.
- Set Automatic backup when a league is closed from "No" to "Backup."
To Back Up the League Manually:
- If the league is open, go to Utilities > Backup > League.
- If the league is closed, go to Maintenance > Backup > League.
- Save the backup on a USB Flash Drive.
If you need to share the league with a center, you can either attach the backup file to an email or take the USB Flash Drive to the center.
Following these steps will ensure your league data is safe and can be recovered easily in case of any emergency.
