Installing on PC in Windows S Mode

Understanding Windows S Mode and How to Switch Out of It

Windows S Mode is a special version of Windows that’s optimized for security and performance while providing a familiar Windows experience. Available on both Windows 10 and Windows 11, S Mode enhances security by only allowing apps from the Microsoft Store and requiring Microsoft Edge for browsing.

Why S Mode Might Be a Challenge

Because S Mode restricts software to those available in the Microsoft Store, you won’t be able to install software from other sources, like CDE Software's website, while in S Mode.

How to Check if Your PC is in S Mode

  1. Open Settings:
    • Go to Settings > System > About.
  2. Check Windows Specifications:
    • In the "Windows Specifications" section, look for "in S mode" next to the Edition entry. This will confirm if you’re using S Mode.

How to Switch Out of S Mode

If you need to install CDE Software products or other applications not available in the Microsoft Store, you’ll need to switch out of S Mode:
  1. Open Settings:
    • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Activation.
  2. Switch to Windows Home or Pro:
    • Look for the "Switch to Windows Home" or "Switch to Windows Pro" section.
    • Click the Go to the Store link (Note: Do not select the link under "Upgrade your edition of Windows" as this won’t switch you out of S Mode).
  3. Complete the Switch:
    • In the Microsoft Store page that appears, select the Get button. This will switch your PC out of S Mode.
    • Once confirmed, you’ll be able to install CDE Software products and other applications.

Important Note

  • No Fee: Microsoft does not charge a fee to switch out of S Mode.
This will allow you to install and use applications from sources outside the Microsoft Store, such as CDE Software products.
