Why Don't Bowlers Show Handicaps?

Why Don't Bowlers Show Handicaps?

BLS offers a lot of flexibility in its handicap rules to accommodate different types of leagues. However, some rules, especially those used in "majors" type leagues, can cause bowlers not to show handicaps if configured incorrectly.

Common Issue: Limiting Handicap per Player

In some leagues, especially in "majors" leagues, there is a rule that limits the handicap a player can receive. For example, a men’s majors league might limit the handicap to 45 pins to keep higher average players in the league and to avoid giving too much advantage to lower average players.
This rule is called Maximum Handicap per Game and can be found in the non-standard tab of the individual handicap section of the league rules screen.

The Problem:

  • Maximum Handicap per Game is usually set to 999 to allow up to 999 pins of handicap, ensuring each bowler gets the maximum handicap they're entitled to.
  • However, if this rule is mistakenly set to zero, it doesn't mean there's no maximum—it actually means that no handicap will be given to any bowler.

How to Fix It:

  1. Check the Handicap Rule:
    • Go to the individual handicap section of the league rules and find the non-standard tab.
  2. Correct the Maximum Handicap per Game:
    • Make sure the Maximum Handicap per Game is set to 999 (or another appropriate value) to ensure that bowlers receive their correct handicaps.
By setting the rule correctly, you can ensure that all bowlers receive their proper handicaps.
