Controlled Access Folder and installation

Resolving Installation Errors on Windows 10 and 11

If you encounter the following error during installation:
  • Error 1317: "An error occurred while attempting to create the directory"
  • Or if the installation gets interrupted and shows in the Event Viewer Logs,
this may be due to a security feature in Windows 10 (version 1803 and later) or Windows 11, designed to prevent malware from modifying your personal files.

Here's How to Solve the Problem:

  1. Turn Off Controlled Folder Access Temporarily:
    • Go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Security > Virus & threat protection.
    • Under Virus & threat protection settings, select Manage settings.
    • Find Controlled folder access and click on Manage Controlled folder access.
    • Turn the Controlled folder access setting Off.
    • Proceed with installing BLS-2025.
    • If you prefer, you can turn Controlled folder access back On by repeating steps 1-4.
  2. Allow the Installer and BLS-2025 Through Controlled Folder Access:
    • Open the Windows Security app by searching for "Security" in the Start menu.
    • Select the Virus & threat protection tile (or the shield icon on the left menu bar), then choose Manage ransomware protection.
    • Under the Controlled folder access section, click Allow an app through Controlled folder access.
    • Select Add an allowed appand follow the prompts to add the following:
      • BLS2025INSTALLER.EXE (the installer)
      • BLS2025.EXE (located in C:\Program Files (x86)\BLS-2025\)
Following these steps should resolve the installation issue and allow you to install BLS-2025 without interruptions.
