AntiVirus False Positives

Handling False Positives with Antivirus Software

Sometimes, your Antivirus (AV) software might mistakenly flag a file or program as a virus or unsafe, even when it’s perfectly fine. While these programs are designed to protect you, they can sometimes be a bit too cautious, leading to what's known as a "false positive."
What is a False Positive?
A false positive happens when a harmless program is incorrectly identified as malicious. This can happen because of how the antivirus software's detection algorithms work. Unfortunately, no antivirus product is completely immune to false positives, and there’s no way for software makers like CDE Software to bypass these scans.
What to Do If This Happens with a CDE Software Product:
  1. Update Your Antivirus:
    • Make sure your antivirus utility and its virus definitions are fully updated.
  2. Update CDE Software:
    • Download and install the latest update for the CDE Software product you're using.
  3. Report the False Positive:
    • Let your antivirus provider know about the false positive.
  4. Add CDE Software to the Exceptions List:
    • Change the settings in your antivirus utility to add the CDE Software product to the exceptions list. If you’re not sure how to do this, please contact the support team of your antivirus software for guidance.
Remember, while CDE Software can help with our products, we can’t assist with your antivirus software settings. If you need help with adding exceptions, it’s best to reach out to your antivirus provider.
By following these steps, you should be able to resolve any false positive issues and continue using your CDE Software product without interruptions.
