Installing on PC in Windows S Mode

Windows S Mode is a special edition of Windows optimized for security and performance, while offering a familiar Windows experience. Currently, Windows 10 and Windows 11 are available in S Mode. This mode increases security by allowing only apps from the Microsoft Store and requiring Microsoft Edge for browsing.

As S Mode restricts software to those available on the Microsoft Store, installing software from other sources, such as CDE Software's secure website, is not possible.

To verify if your PC is in S Mode:

  1. Go to Settings > System > About.
  2. In the "Windows Specifications" section, look for "in S mode" next to the Edition entry to confirm if you're using S Mode.

To install CDE Software products or other applications not available in the Microsoft Store, you will need to switch out of S mode:

  1. Navigate to Settings > Update & Security > Activation.
  2. Find the "Switch to Windows Home" or "Switch to Windows Pro" section and click the Go to the Store link.
  3. Note: Do not select the link under "Upgrade your edition of Windows," as it will not take the PC out of S Mode.
  4. In the Microsoft Store, on the page that appears, select the Get button to switch out of S mode. Once confirmed, you can install CDE Software products.

Microsoft does not charge a fee to switch out of S mode.
