Standing sheet message box fixed, not adjusting
Problem reported by Michael Tinney - September 12, 2015 at 10:49 AM
Not A Problem
Is anyone else experiencing the problem where the standing sheet message width seems fixed regardless of if you choose auto or fixed size? It worked in BLS-2015 and before when the option was between auto and 7", but the new "fixed size" is stuck as on, so I'm guessing there is a small tweak needed. What I need to know is if it on my side (installation/setting) or on the BLS (software revision) side.

I've tried very short messages and left the setting on auto, but got lots of white space as a result and no size adjustment.

Running BLS-2016, 28.03.04.

Hello Mike. There were changes to this behavior after the book and help file were completed.

I'm not sure from your description what your targeted result is. Here is a brief summary of what you can expect:
1. There are two settings that control the message box in BLS-2016.
   A) The Auto/Fixed Size slider
   B) The wordwrap arrow (the curved arrow) just above the message edit box. This starts a dialog that asks how many characters you want the message to be.

2. When "Fixed Size" is selected, the message box will always be the same size ( about 6 inches) regardless of whether the icons are shown or not and regardless of the wordwrap setting you select.

3. When "Auto" is selected, the message box will do one of two things:
    A) by default, it will grow to cover any space not used by the icons. If both icons are present and you haven't adjusted the wordwrap setting, the message goes edge to edge.
    B) Changing the wordwrap setting to a value of less than 75 will REDUCE the size of the message box and EXPAND any visible icons. The minimum wordwrap setting that BLS recognizes is 36 (3 inches).

For example (some of these you have done, but I'm putting them here for others too):

Default Auto/Fixed Size behavior (Wordwrap is set to 75)
 1. Open the league
 2. Select Setup->Standings from the menu
 3. From the Items tab, add one or more messages to the Standing report
 4. Select the Messages tab
 5. Turn off the "Print Left Icon" and "Print Right Icon" sliders
 6. Select "Fixed Size" on the Auto/Fixed Size slider
 7. Select Preview from the menu
 8. Look at the message box.
 9. Close the Preview
 10. Select "Auto" on the Auto/Fixed Size slider
 11. Select Preview from the menu
 12. Notice that the message box has expanded to the borders
 13. Close the Preview
 14. Select icons for both sides
 15. Slide the "Print Left Icon" to "Yes"
 16. Select Preview from the menu (Auto is still on, Right icon is still off)
 17. Notice that the message box has adjusted to allow room for the left icon
 18. Close the Preview
 19. Slide the "Print Right Icon" to "Yes"
 20. Select Preview from the menu (Auto is still on, both icons are on)
 21. Notice that the message box has adjusted to allow room for both icons
 22. Slide the Auto/Fixed Size slider to "Fixed Size"
 23. Select Preview from the menu (Auto is still on, both icons are on)
 24. The message box should be similar or the same as it was. I expect this is what you were seeing.

Wordwrap Auto/Fixed Size behavior (Wordwrap 36-74)
 1. Open the league
 2. Select Setup->Standings from the menu
 3. From the Items tab, add one or more messages to the Standing report
 4. Select the Messages tab
 5. Turn off the "Print Left Icon" and "Print Right Icon" sliders
 6. Select "Fixed Size" on the Auto/Fixed Size slider
 7. Press the wordwrap arrow just above the message edit box
 8. Set the wordwrap to 40
 9. Select Preview from the menu
 10. Look at the message box.
 11. Close the Preview
 12. Select "Auto" on the Auto/Fixed Size slider
 13. Select Preview from the menu
 14. Notice that the message box is about 3 1/2 inches wide
 15. Close the Preview
 16. Select icons for both sides
 17. Slide the "Print Left Icon" to "Yes"
 18. Select Preview from the menu (Auto is still on, Right icon is still off)
 19. Notice that the left icon fills the space to the left of the message
 20. Close the Preview
 21. Slide the "Print Right Icon" to "Yes"
 22. Select Preview from the menu (Auto is still on, both icons are on)
 23. Notice that both icons fill the space from the message to the borders
 24. Slide the Auto/Fixed Size slider to "Fixed Size"
 25. Select Preview from the menu (Auto is still on, both icons are on)
 26. Notice that the message has expanded to about 6 inches and the icons are about 1 inch each

Hope that helps.

Herb
