Brackets: How to Display Nickname Instead of Full Name
Question asked by Bob Ashley - September 1, 2014 at 5:09 PM
Answered
BLS-2015/Pro, version 27.03.04, Windows 8.1

I'm running brackets for the first time on BLS-2015/Pro and it has everyone listed by their full name instead of their nickname under BLS-2014

It is not intuitively obvious on how to set nicknames be used.  Is this settable?

thanks

There is no setting for display of nicknames (to enable or disable).

What I did research was showing that the regular names appear on bracket diagrams, and this is the same for an alive list. But a payout list will show nicknames. I did launch BLS-2014 and found that things were slightly different last season.

All that said, the brackets function quite well in BLS. I do not know what amount of programming would change things back to where they were (although it would be quite complicated to include the ability to specify whether nicknames can be displayed in lieu of a real name). It's possible that there were numerous requests last season for it to be different albeit I don't recall any myself. I had requested that suffixes appear on a payout report, and this is not yet included but I have my workarounds.

For now, nicknames are not available for the bracket diagrams. I have some folks who are certified with USBC by actual first name, but only use their nicknames. So, for now, I will be changing first names to nicknames after I print the certification cards.

The drawback will be resetting the names if they qualify for an award.

Update: I have changed the first names of my bracket players to nicknames where necessary.  I'm not going to worry about resetting names for awards since they only go to the local association..

I'm trying to understand why it would have changed from 2014 to 2015.

I'm up to the current version, 27.03.11, and the diagrams still show full names; payout sheet uses nicknames, though.

So it's safe to presume that nicknames on the diagrams, which did work in 2014, will not be address in 2015?

thanks

Still haven't had a chance to look at that section, Bob.

Hey Lance ... any news on this?  Last Thursday, one of my bowlers came up to me saying he could not find the name of the person he was bowling against (who goes by his middle name).

As I mentioned before, it was not an issue with BLS-2014 so it was a mystery why it stopped working with BLS-2015.

Anyway, I hope it's being addressed as my bowlers are noticing.

thanks

This was addressed in 27.04.05.  See Bracket Setup > Options regarding name display.
