Export data to digital signage
Idea shared by Jeremy Thomas - April 16, 2014 at 5:07 PM
Under Consideration
We run multiple tournaments including a multi weekend team/dbls/singles tournament.  I would like the ability to export standings in a format accepted by powerpoint or other digital signage programs.  Or an interface directly with them.  is this possible now or can it be implemented in future versions?

Which CDE product are you using? You are not mentioning if you are using BTM-2013, BLS-2014, or T-Brac (A/S, PRO or Standard). Specific steps on how to attempt what you are trying to do will differ somewhat with all three. Please tag/provide the software for which you are licensed with a software version number.

Simply put, each page of a standings report can be exported to a variety of image formats, with some more possible in a PRO version of BTM/BLS than others. They include .pdf, .bmp, .jpg, .png, .gif, .html in BLS and BTM, and in T-Brac 2006, can be copied page by page into the Windows Clipboard and pasted into another program to be compiled/saved.

I have never used PowerPoint, but I would like to imagine that it could be able to import and use image files of some of these types.

CDE does also offer a kiosk product.

my apologies, i did tag btm 5 and bls 2014 when I made the thread.  Scrolling images in powerpoint is not ideal. and most digital signage programs i have used or want to use need data in excel to do large scrolls. I.E. when you go to nationals and there are screens all over scrolling standings.  Kiosks are nice but not ideal in this day and age. Most modern centers have video distribution systems and have the ability to pipe video/images ect to any tv in the building.  This is what i am striving for.  Most modern POS systems quibica, brunswick ect...interface directly to digital signage systems but since 3rd party software is used to run leagues and tournaments I.E. BTM and BLS, that program needs to also interface.

Thoughts?

thanks.

I did note the tags (they are off to the side) although it would be beneficial to know what particular software.

A/S and PRO generally have the same extra features compared to Standard in both BTM and BLS, and I believe that you could export both to text that can be imported into Excel.

In BTM, section I (reports) allows you configure and customize any number of standings, results, or otherwise to have exactly and only what you want and in desired sequence (the Style Number is present, which can be changed and some styles can be modified). The best option is to go to #8 (Change Event Reports Setups). At the bottom center of that screen is a pop-up (the letters "Fi" are hidden) that is titled "File Format (if exported)" and can be so done as your choice of "Comma + Quote", "... + Quote if necessary", "Fixed Spacing", or "TAB delimited". The last of these might be best but you are always able to experiment. Set that pop-up as desired (it will default to the first choice constantly) then click "Export Report" at the top of that screen, where you can save the exported report as text. In Excel, you can then import the text into an existing spreadsheet, although you will have to customize your own headers for the various columns. You would want to review things regardless, to make sure an extra or missing TAB doesn't skew the report somehow.

In BLS, all of the above is present but in a slightly different interface/location within the window. In Reports > Customize Advanced Reports, find "File Format (if exported)" at the center of the window. Report customization is self-explanatory give the above for BTM (generally similar). The "Export" command is found in the "Print" menu at the top.

It may not be a perfect interface, but in the process you have the ability to proofread things and further customize the Excel spreadsheet that would ultimately be displayed.

Thanks, I will try those.   Does CDE have any plans to fully support digital signage in the future?

There isn't an industry standard, in terms of digital signage support handling of presentation of data.  Each of the various digital signage systems have their own standards of how data is presented.  Many of the digital signage systems out there are really nothing more than playback of images and not of actual data.
