Averages printing on recaps
Problem reported by Dusty Clark - October 6, 2014 at 12:01 PM
Not A Problem
BLS 2015 Pro 27.04.02

When I go to print the recaps for the next week the averages do not print on the recaps.  When I do a print preview they are there.

As a test, I printed a test recap on plain paper on my main machine that has Windows 7.  I print the recaps on a machine that has Windows XP (I know, bad, but that's all I use that machine for since it has a dot matrix printer attached).

Is this because it's Windows XP or something else?

Dusty, I was going to wait for other responses as I don't have a dot matrix printer nor XP since 2007, but seeing none for some time...I'm curious if there was ever any modification to the fonts? That's the only thing I can think of...if the font that's assigned to the bowler averages isn't on your system and thus nothing will print. I wonder if changing the font setup for recaps might bring something about?

I don't know if you have any experience working with font setups, and I can't describe at this time the process for doing it because I don't have my laptop at work to work through it, but the manual may point you in the right direction.

The funny thing is that the averages printed for week 1.  Starting on week 2 they quit printing.  Perhaps it was one of the updates that did it.

The operating system of the computer won't change how the recap are printed. Check your setting before you print the recaps, if the box for "Averages" isn't marked then they won't show up on the printout.

I use this computer for nothing else except to print the recaps.  The only thing that's changed is I have applied the BLS updates.

I just conducted an experiment using all three font selections, here are my findings.

All three have Use full name, not initials.
1.  Always use regular font for names
    Averages don't print
2.  Use condensed font for long names
Averages DO print, however, long names font is BIGGER.
3.  Always use condensed font
Averages DO print, however font is bigger for ALL names!?!
Now that sounds like a font problem to me.  If I need to print using options #2 or #3 that's OK, this behavior is just weird.  Perhaps I used on of these two options in week 1 and changed it for every week since.

Dusty, there are other thing to look at, from a font perspective, on recaps.

On the recap screen, the Printing menu has a number of options, the last being "Font Setup".  In here, the actual font to be used as well as the size can be set, together with colors and styles. On my inkjet, I dress these up a bit.

You might find that the condensed font is (incorrectly) set to print a wide font instead, for example. Since I haven't used BLS to print to dot matrix, I can't suggest what you will find. I don't want you to waste these precious sheets (if you can print on plain paper, one pair only, that may be beneficial). But you might be able to experiment with the options there to be able to get thing printed as desired.

I had the same problem with printing to my Epson LQ590 printer, I found that if I went into the print setup box for the recap and unchecked the bow "print in black ink only", the averages would then print.  This is something that changed during one of the latest updates, because it had been printing for the first 5 weeks of the season, and then would not.  Try to uncheck the black ink box...

I found that I had no font listed for "condensed font"  I set that the CDE3 font and everything printed.

Go to "Weekly" - "Print Recaps" - click the "Printing" icon and at the bottom is "font setup"
The last item is "Bowler Names - Condensed"

After playing around with the fonts for a while I found that shadow effects had been enabled I disabled this and the averages now print.

Shadow Effects is a report setting that is found under font setup,  that can be found under printing on the print recap sheets screen.
It is definitely not a printer option
